THE SLEEPING ET'S QUIZ
by Scott Mandelker

Before you read the following profile of the qualities and experiences that can be clues to extraterrestrial identity, you might want to ask one simple, but very important question:

Can I really know for sure that I am an ET soul?

Well, the answer is yes, but only if you ask yourself sincerely and you really want to know the truth at a core level, beneath all the conditioned notions of who you think you should be. To achieve this kind of realization involves a process of subjective knowing which I explored in depth in From Elsewhere, and it requires a quiet, receptive mind, in which you focus your question again and again and then wait patiently without hurry, welcoming and accepting whatever inspiration comes and trusting in its value no matter what is received. You can apply critical reason later.

The profile below shows some of what I look for when I'm trying to figure out if the person in front of me is an ET soul. As you read each of the following clues, remain sensitive to any feelings, memories, or images that arise. Even if you don't understand what they are, what they mean, or where they come from, just be with your experience. Remember, to be or not be ET is not a big deal, but if it's true, you really should admit it. Keep an open mind and a receptive heart, and then listen for the answers that arise from the deep. The balance is between reason and intuition.

Were you often lost in daydreams of ETs, UFOs, other worlds, space travel and utopian societies as a child? Your family may have thought you were 'a bit odd' without knowing quite why.

Did you sometimes feel that your parents were not your true parents, that your real family was far away and hidden? Perhaps you thought things around you were somehow not the way they ought to be, or you had faint recollections of another way of life somewhere far away. These beliefs may have caused you a great deal of discomfort. You felt out of place.

Have you had one or more vivid UFO experiences, whether in dreams or during waking hours, that dramatically changed your life? They helped resolve doubts, inspired confidence and hope, or gave you meaning and a greater sense of purpose. You may have felt a subtle shift in consciousness, an increase in spiritual presence, or a fundamentally altered outlook on life, all connected with that experience. It changed your life completely: you were a different person.

Are you are genuinely kind, gentle, harmless, peaceful, and non-aggressive (not just sometimes, but almost always)? If someone must do without, it usually ends up being you, for such is your habit of self-sacrifice. Acts of human cruelty, mindless destruction and global warfare seem really strange (shall we say, alien?) to you. Killing off one's brothers and sisters, destroying the environment that is our home, all this anger, rage, and violence just doesn't compute.

Do you have a hard time recognizing evil and trickery? Do some people call you naive? When you do perceive genuine negativity, perhaps you recoil in horror, and feel somewhat shocked that people really do things like that. You may actually feel confused, perhaps sensing that life doesn't have to be this way, and that you've known a place free of such disharmony.

Is the essence of your life serving others, be they family, friends, colleagues or clients? You hold great ideals, which may also be somewhat innocent and naive in worldly terms, but you sincerely, deeply hope to improve the world. You've probably experienced a great deal of disappointment and frustration when these hopes and dreams aren't realized.

Could you be described as having a scientific temperament, with a cool, reasonable, and measured approach to life? Human passion and red hot desire seem strange; when you encounter these qualities in others, you feel somewhat baffled. Romantic love and the entire world of feelings are far removed from your logical, analytical way. Perhaps people say you're always in your head - and it's probably true! [Note: Wanderers of this type are not so common, and most of them wouldn't even be reading this book! They're often skeptics to the UFO issue, perhaps hardened debunkers like the late Dr. Carl Sagan; they may also be great scientists, odd birds, brilliant inventors, New Science enthusiasts and eccentrics.]

Do you find that you can easily lose yourself in science fiction, medieval epic fantasy (such as the works of J.R. Tolkein) and visionary art? Your dreams of the past or future often seem more real than your life in the present, and sometimes you consider Earth life boring and empty, and you long for an exciting life of adventure. Such yearnings have been with you for many years.

Do you have an insatiable interest in UFOs, life on other worlds, or previous Earth civilizations such as Atlantis or Lemuria? Sometimes you feel like you've really been there, and may even go back someday. Perhaps you've amassed an extensive home library on such subjects. [Note: This is really a give-away, since only Wanderers and Walk-ins have profound, undying curiosity about worlds beyond -- and for good reason, since they just recently left them.]

Do you have a strong interest in mystic spirituality, either in theory or practice, with some sense that you used to have greater powers but somehow lost them? When you begin to get involved in these practices you may feel it's unnecessary to discipline yourself since you've already been there, even though you seem to have forgotten what you used to know. Others may doubt your sincerity and resolve, but you know it's not that simple.

Have you become a conscious channel for ETs or some other non-Earth source of ageless wisdom -- and you know clearly that the purpose of your life is to help others grow and evolve? If you answered yes, you're probably no longer sleeping, Wanderer!

Do you feel -- and perhaps all your life have felt -- tremendous alienation and a sense of never quite fitting in? Maybe you hope to be like others, try your best to be normal, or truly imagine you really are like everyone else, but such mental tricks never quite work. You simply feel different, and always have. You have a very real fear that you may never find a place in this world. [Note: This is the classic trait of Wanderers.]

Well, the truth is, some Wanderers on Earth don't find a comfortable place down here. Of all the different indicators in the profile above, you should know that the last one is the most common among those who are from elsewhere. Of course, not everyone who feels alienated from society is an ET soul, but among those who do, many are.

If you have some kind of inner knowing that you might be a Wanderer, then it is critical that you use discernment when deciding with which friends and family you'll share your ideas. As I discussed in my first book, From Elsewhere: Being ET in America, many marriages have not weathered the storms of the ET coming out phase, and in some cases, merely raising the possibility of cosmic belonging was sufficient to destroy one partner's trust. One man told me that his wife felt betrayed that she learned that he had a separate ET family in the stars. It was as if he had a second wife in another state!

Besides grappling with how to tell, or how much to tell your significant others, you may also find that skeptical friends and acquaintances become somewhat hostile. Some of the people I met for my first book weren't self-sufficient enough to keep quiet, and were then flooded with negativity and ridicule from those in whom they confided. While it is certainly hard, you can try to use such criticism as a mirror to clarify your own thinking. It's best to give every opinion a hearing, compare views and possibilities, and let it all settle down in your mind -- and then listen to what you think! As in the process of subjective knowing that helped many Wanderers clarify their spiritual experiences, identities, and purposes on Earth, you can use the same self-validation process to figure out which opinions to trust, which to hold, and which to discard. Interacting with people who question our beliefs is a fine way of deepening our familiarity with exactly what we do believe.

The title of Robert A. Heinlein's classic sci-fi story, A Stranger in a Strange Land, is the perfect description of being a Wanderer on Earth. In some sense, each of the indicators in the ET profile listed above are simply variations on a theme: there are leads and pointers that can make it abundantly clear that indeed you are such a stranger here. In fact, with Planet Earth looking more and more like Planet Hollywood every day, a lot of people can probably agree that our world is quite a strange land. If you're still lost in doubt, I recommend you learn how to relax into your natural mind (which may, however, require a lot of disciplined meditation to reveal), and then listen for the quiet, inner voice. I assure you, with time, all doubts fall away and only the real will remain. So have faith in yourself: we all have the resources we need to understand and integrate what is essential to our lives on Earth.

The New ET Questionnaire

New and revised, this questionnaire gives those of you who prefer the scientific method a more quantitative way to decide if you are a Wanderer or ET soul. Simply answer yes or no to the following 20 questions, and give yourself 5 points for every YES answer, and 3 points for every maybe, or somewhat. In my own experience, teaching, and counseling, I've found that most Wanderers fit the following profile:

YOUR CHILDHOOD

1. Did you often think about, daydream, or fantasize about ETs, UFOs, and other worlds?

2. Did you feel like ordinary things around you were somehow strange, like the human body, the color of the sky, trees and nature, human architecture, and adults?

3. Did you ever feel as if your parents were not your real parents, that you had a missing brother or sister, or a home some place far away?

4. Did you have magical dreams of flying, invisible spirit friends, or receiving special guidance and protection?

5. Did you look up at the night sky with longing sometimes and say: Take me home...Why am I here? or ask Why am I so alone?

YOUR PERSONALITY

6. Are you kind, gentle, peaceful, and non-aggressive -- not just sometimes, but almost always?

7. Are you hurt, saddened, and confused by all the human evil and cruelty in the world?

8. Do you feel that money, possessions, and a successful career are not really that important?

9. Do you sometimes feel more comfortable with plants and animals than with people?

10. Are you generally sensitive, considerate, generous, and concerned with others around you?

11. Have you felt different, out-of-place, or somewhat alienated from human society all your life?

12. Have you had dreams, visions, or sightings of UFOs that inspired real spiritual growth?

13. Have you had dramatic dreams of Earth Changes, geological and social upheaval, the end of the world, or future civilization?

14. Are you logical, scientific, non-emotional, and somewhat confused by hot passion and desire?

15. Have you had a clear and uplifting contact with benevolent, kind, and highly-evolved ETs?

YOUR INTERESTS

16. Are you interested in science fiction, epic fantasy, angels, high technology, and world prophecy?

17. Are you interested in Atlantis, Lemuria, channeling, pyramids, New Age ideas and UFOs?

18. Are you interested in meditation, alternative healing, or bringing love and light to the world?

19. Do you believe human society is ignorant of the spiritual truths that you know to be true?

20. Do you have a strong sense of purpose and feel that your mission is to help Earth and humanity?

SCORING YOUR ET IDENTITY

100-75 points: In my view, you definitely are an ET soul, but perhaps you are not surprised!

75-25 points: You may or may not be a Star Person, and you need more reflection to know for sure.

25-00 points: You probably are not an ET soul, but why are you interested in these matters?

Remember, only you can know for sure if you are from elsewhere, and knowing your cosmic roots is only the first step. After that, it's essential to consider why you're here and what your purpose is. Being on Earth gives all Wanderers a perfect opportunity to develop ourselves, to refine our understanding and expression of love and wisdom, and help the world in our own special way.

About the Author

Born in 1962 in New York City, Scott Mandelker completed his doctorate in East West Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in San Francisco in 1992. His Ph.D. combines basic Western psychology with a study of Eastern religions, and followed years of formal training in US and Asian Buddhist temples (Japanese Zen and Thai Theravadan traditions). He has published over a dozen essays on metaphysics, Eastern religions, and the spiritual dimensions of ET contact, and has practiced daily meditation for nearly 20 years. Focusing on benevolent ET contact and paranormal experience, his first book, From Elsewhere: Being ET in America, revealed the culture of a most provocative New Age group. His second book, to be released in February 2000, is entitled Universal Vision: Soul Evolution and the Cosmic Plan (Medicine Bear Publishing). This grand synthesis joins the ageless wisdom of Buddhism with the metaphysics of ET contact, UFO agendas, Earth Changes, and the principles of spiritual growth. It also includes extensive in-depth chapters on self-healing and meditation practice. He currently teaches throughout the US and Japan, and gives private counseling in SF.
