I was never one to see ghosts. I saw a witchy non-human being once when I was a little girl, but mostly I saw spirit guides or family members who had died which was never scary to me. My introduction to ghosts has come through my clients and friends complaining of phenomena and hair raising chilly places in their houses. I have done house clearings both on the phone and in person and have learned some things about ghosts and other apparitions as a result. Most of this work is working with benign spirits. However, some ARE malicious.

I have found that most ghostly hauntings are usually due to the entity's unresolved emotional turmoil or drug addictions, etc., during life... They wander around places looking for family members or retracing steps taken during emotional crisis situations. I do not find that these ghosts represent the totality of the spirit. Rather they are manifestations of the personalities in life that survive as ghosts. Their true spirits are in the spirit world. Most ghosts can be easily cleared simply by telling the entity to go to the light, that this physical world is not his/her home any longer and there is a new home in Spirit with friends awaiting his/her arrival. Some are spirits inhabiting the land who are supposed to be there, but who have not been honored or asked permission for building to occur.

Ghosts may appear as white tissue-like phenomena floating through a room, flashes of images, clear apparitions or be felt as chilly places in a house, or simply cause the hair to raise on the back of your neck. You may smell a fragrance or hear music, laughter or other noises. Some bring a comforting presence while others clearly bring a malicious presence. Entities can actually move items in your house or depress spots on furniture. Most are curious. Some have malicious intent. One thing to remember is they are not more powerful than you. You are more powerful than they are. You are powerful enough to have manifested a human body and are capable of operating it. There is also a natural law of Spirit that when you tell something to go away, it has to. However, this takes awareness and presence on your part.

Another thing to remember is that aromatic herbs can be very clearing, especially sage. Pictures of ascended beings bring with them a presence that can be summoned by having the picture in the area. I know it sounds silly, but items have energies about them that can be powerful. The religion does not matter...the spiritual intent does.

When should you call on a entity-clearing psychic for help? If you have told the entity to go and it does not go or if you are concerned or frightened, you might consider calling for help. .

A Few Stories of Visitations

I felt a presence in the house before I went to bed but I didn't investigate it. I was awakened in the middle of sleep by a distinct presence and saw a white tissue like thing floating through my bedroom, coming towards me like something in a whirlpool heading toward a drain. I jumped out of bed and turned on the light and commanded it to go away. The image left, but the hair-raising feeling stayed for some time until I figured out it was a woman looking for her husband. I then calmly asked her to go to the light and explained the situation to her. She promptly left.

A friend of mine recently moved into a new house that had been built in a rural area. There were many spirits visiting her house, some from a Native American burial ground (more on this below) and others who had lived in the area and hung around the land. She felt the chilly, cold spaces in her house and heard and saw things move. I cleared the house over the phone for her and asked to create harmony between the spirits of the land and the area and their new house. The entities have not bothered her since.

This same friend was watching an upsetting show about the Palestinian/Israeli conflict and a female spirit began to press on her bed, turning water on and off and generally upset my friend for days. She asked me to help. She was not aware of why the spirit had come, but when I looked at it, it was clear the spirit was a victim of the conflict and had extreme feelings about it and wanted my friend's help. I explained to the spirit that she could get more healing and help by going into the light of Spirit than by petitioning livng people for help. She left immedately to my friend's great relief.

Native American Burial Issues

This land was occupied by a great many people before Europeans arrived here. These native people had their own cultural values and lives. The European traditions imposed different values on all things of this land. Correspondingly, it would make sense that our building practices do not honor the land or the possible previous inhabitants of the land in any particular area. The spirits of native burial grounds are often greatly disturbed by housing developments and shopping malls, for example. Ideally, if we are to live here, we should treat the land with respect and do an honoring and even a request for habitation of a particular area. There is probably no ideal way for non-native people to build housing developments and malls on land that they consider real property instead of living land. However, if some attempt were made to honor the spirits of the land, much harmony could be achieved. My heart is always saddened when I see that a visitation is the result of building over a burial ground. My wish is that the building was never done.
